Brother Announces New Printer Models for SMBs

Earlier today Brother International Corp. of Canada revealed its latest line of printers aimed at small business users, with the first of the models available as of today and two less expensive models due out next month.
The top of the line flagship model, the MFC-6490CW, was made available today and leads Brother’s new Professional Series of printers with more features and solutions for SOHO users.
While these features include the ability to print, copy, scan and fax, while using wireless networking, the primary boasting point of the MFC-6490CW is the fact that in addition to standard letter size (8.5 x 11 in.) paper, this all-in-one printer is also capable of using ledger size (11 x 17 in.) paper for a broader range of applications.
This opens up possibilities for all sorts of businesses, whether a small restaurant needs to print tall menus, a club wants to promote an event with posters, or a business has to send scans of large tables and spreadsheets, the Brother MFC-6490CW is capable of doing all that and more.
“With our new Professional Series, Brother literally changes and expands the market by creating a new product category”, said Brian Caldwell, senior product marketing manager at Brother. “These new products were built on Brother’s legacy of making innovative business technology affordable to small and mid-sized workplaces, based on customers’ feedback.”
The flagship MFC-6490CW will ship at a retail of $349, and will be the most feature-rich model in the Professional Series, with two more basic models becoming available in October. The MFC-5890CN will retail for $249 and won’t have the wireless networking of the 6490CW but will support ledger-size paper, while the MFC-5490 will sell for $179, without ledger-sized printing capability and with a smaller screen.
All models will be network ready with auto document feeders and high capacity paper trays, as well as quick output times at up to 35 pages per minute (ppm) in monochrome and 28 ppm in colour. In addition all printers will have PictBridge compatibility and USB flash drives in addition to featuring Brother’s PhotoCapture Centre.
