Siemens Pocket-sized Ultrasound is World's First

The world's first hand-held ultrasound imaging device is going to be a great help in saving lives while speeding up emergency room times due to its portable nature.
Expected to help patients with serious internal hemorrages and other problems and weighing in at only 1.6 pounds, Siemens’ new Acuson P10 ultrasound system is sure to be a great help for medical staff around the globe.
Klaus Hambuchen, the chief executive officer for Siemens Healthcare, believes that the Acuson P10 will improve the health of a patient significantly.
“The Acuson P10 is a complete ultrasound imaging system and can be used for trauma, cardiac, and general imaging applications in settings where the use of larger systems is simply not practical,” said Hambuchen. “The P10 system provides faster access to critical information for physicians at the point of care, which would significantly affect patient management and improve outcomes.”
Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) will be the first in Canada to use the new portable ultrasound. Dr. Savvas Nicolaou, director of emergency and trauma imaging at VGH believes the Acuson P10 system will save critical time during the first hour after the patient has arrived at the ER.
“We believe the Acuson P10 system will be an invaluable tool in helping triage patients with internal hemorrage more rapidly than ever before and will lead to improved patient outcomes,” said Nicolaou. “It is widely understood that patients who have treatment initiated within the first critical hour have an increased chance of survival.”
